We all know that we can’t accomplish much more than anything beyond mediocre without the right people. At some level, extraordinary businesses have a no-tolerance mindset towards mediocrity, resulting in a high number of outstanding performers.
Is this harsh? Of course not. If you want to be the best, you have to select and coach the best. The deeper your team’s talent pool, the easier it is for you to leverage opportunities, proactively effect change, and drive outstanding results.
The Rule: Who (the talent) matters more than what (the task). If you don’t have the right people in the right seat on that proverbial bus of yours, you can’t get to your desired destination (the results). Stop lying to yourself! If they aren’t cutting it, cut them.
The Lesson: A high bar helps your people reach their true potential. A low bar serves no one. Talented leaders make the cut!
