How do we keep momentum alive?

For Aspire, our work is really about one thing…change.  No ones hires us to maintain the status quo.  At least not in the last 20 years!

Change comes in many forms.  You might need to change a process (training) or your message (marketing). Regardless of what it is, change is hard for many people. There is a mindset that has to come with any change.  If you don’t get people excited – or at least curious – about changing something, no matter how big or small it might be, you will likely not have change that sticks and you could even realize ineffective disruption.

Change is a process.  It starts with ideation toward measurable goals and objectives. It then has to be rolled out in an engaging and WIIFM (What’s In It For Me?) form of communication and training.  Nothing happens because you state what needs to be done.  Change happens through engagement and the ability of a leader to shine the light on “the why,” giving the resources needed to set individuals up for success and finding ways to celebrate progress.  Progress comes in small bits initially and it is through this progress that you can build momentum.

Momentum is the real fuel that allows change to stick and establish a new standard.  Some people look for perfection before they celebrate change. This only slows progress.  With change comes mistakes and risks.  It takes courage to do something new and to engage your people to take this risk, you must celebrate their courage and commitment to the progress you are looking for.

The Lesson

Nothing positive comes from negativity.  All progress comes from people taking the risk required to do something differently.  Ideas change nothing. It takes engagement, education and resources to implement the change you need to take your team to the next level.  Change happens!
